What Can You Say in 60 Seconds?
One of the most important parts of every BNI meeting is the “BNI 60 Second Slot” Each member takes this opportunity to educate everyone in the room. Who you are, what you do, why you are so good at it, who you are looking to be referred to and anything else that would help your fellow members get you them all important referrals.
We’ve all heard of the “Elevator Pitch” but few of us have never been trained on how to prepare one! 60 seconds is certainly not enough time to make a speech but it is often all you have to get your message across.
If you feel nervous about giving a 60 second presentation, don’t worry…you are not alone! Everybody you meet at your meeting has been in your position and some are still just as nervous.
Here are a few tips that will help :-
- Prepare your 60 seconds in advance
- Sounds obvious, but make sure you include your name & business name, not everybody remembers when they first meet you.
- What do you do? A great way to tell the room what you do, perhaps how you have helped a client. This is potentially a little more engaging than simply listing all your products/services.
- Who would be a good referral for you? Who do you want to do more business with? Who can help you move your business forward? It’s OK to name them – you never know somebody in that room may know them or know somebody who knows them. Remember the power of BNI isn’t in the people you meet at the meeting, it’s who they may know!
In a nutshell, you can say an awful lot in 60 seconds if you plan and be as specific as you possibly can.
